COUNTRY ROADS...
The book!

   Q. What do you get when an outspoken middle-aged man who remembers his childhood in keen detail starts telling stories?

A. A weekly newspaper column entitled Country Roads -- and a book by the same name!
The oldest of six children, Arvid Huisman grew up in rural north central Iowa during the ‘50s and ‘60s. His parents were first and second generation Americans who taught by example the value of hard work, honesty, love of family and faith in God.
Arvid began writing Country Roads, a weekly newspaper column, in 1988 for the Creston (Iowa) News-Advertiser where he served as publisher at the time. In 1990 the Webster City (Iowa) Daily Freeman-Journal, where he started his newspaper career in 1973, began publishing the column as well. After a seven-year hiatus, Arvid resumed writing Country Roads in early 2007 and it is now published in several Iowa newspapers.
Huisman writes from the heart to and about the people he holds dear - folks whose values and memories were created in the rural Midwest.
This book contains 75 of the best of more than 700 Country Roads columns written over the years.
